The Escola d'Idiomes Moderns (EIM) at the UB

The Escola d'Idiomes Moderns (EIM) is the language school of the University of Barcelona (UB).

The school was founded in 1953, which makes it one of the oldest language schools in the city and currently provides courses in 15 different languages in class, online and blended formats.

In 2013, the EIM moved into the historic Jeroni Granell building, a modernista classic of Catalan architecture.

The school's teacher training department offers CELTA and Delta courses and runs regular workshops and training days for language teachers, including the 'Jornades Multilíngües', with sessions in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish.

The first bi-annual ELT Research in Action (ELTRIA) conference was held in April 2017. Subsequent editions have been held in 2019 and 2022 (online). Books of conference selections are published in collaboration with the IATEFL Research SIG . The first one (2018), with a foreword by prof. Zoltán Dörnyei, is available to download for free here.
